INSIGHTS
Insights from Do Good. Well.
Reflections on philanthropy, culture, influence and giving well.
What does it mean to give well?
I spend a lot of time talking to people about giving.
Not just how much they want to give, or which charity they should support, but what giving really means to them. What they care about. What moves them. What makes them feel hopeful, angry, protective, grateful or determined.
In conversation: giving well and thoughtful philanthropy
Lucy Macnamara recently joined Gina Gardiner & Friends for a conversation about the experiences that shaped her approach to philanthropy and the thinking behind Do Good. Well.
Drawing on her background across the charity sector, Lucy reflects on what those years taught her about how social change happens, what charities need, and how to turn good intentions into thoughtful, meaningful action. The episode explores the joy of giving, the role of due diligence, and how Lucy now supports individuals, families, talent and organisations to approach philanthropy with greater clarity, confidence and connection to the work they want to support.
Fashioned for failure? when philanthropy goes wrong
Last month, I was horrified to see the story of financial misconduct and poor governance unfold regarding Naomi Campbell’s charity, Fashion for Relief.
The headlines were shocking: despite raising almost £4.8 million, the charity only gave out £389k in charitable grants. That’s only 8% of income going to beneficiaries that the charity was supposed to be helping.
At Do Good. Well., we know the importance of excellent philanthropy advice to get things right. And being in the public eye, the stakes are even higher. That’s exactly where we come in.
